HFS Properties and Commercial Real Estate Services, Inc. are excited to announce their latest office redevelopment, The 428, has been awarded LEEDTM Silver certification. The U.S. Green Building Council’s President, Mahesh Ramanujam, presented the prestigious designation personally at a celebration held at The 428 this week.
The U.S. Green Building CouncilTM (USGBC) are globally-recognized experts in sustainability. LEED (Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design) is a green building certification program that recognizes best-in-class building strategies and practices aimed at reducing energy and water usage, promoting better indoor air quality, and improving quality of life. It is the preeminent program for the design, construction, maintenance and operations of high-performance green buildings.
The 428 underwent extensive and complete renovation of the existing three-story, 1955 former Woolworth’s department store that sat vacant for 23 years in downtown St. Paul. In August of 2018, The 428 was the first building in the 7-state region to be awarded WELLTM Certification at the Gold Level and is now the first to receive LEED Silver designation as well. The 428 is paving the way for today’s workforce into a future focused on the physical and mental health of its occupants to drive productivity for businesses.
“We have built a dynamic and integrative office environment with features that you won’t find in any other building in the Twin Cities. We have learned that Better buildings equal better life and the best building focus on “Swellness,” a combination of sustainability and wellness. Thank you to everyone who helped make this project a reality – we couldn’t be happier with this achievement!” said Pat Wolf, president of Commercial Real Estate Services, Inc.
